Avoid The
Crooks

If It
Sounds Too Good To Be True It's Too
Good To Be True
I got zinged twice today with two e-mails illustrating precisely the wrong approach to building an MLM business.
The first one redirected me to a guys page that, in no uncertain
terms said, I could make all the money I needed by doing the following,
and I quote:
1. Just USE product and make big money.
2. NO recruiting required to make big money... lots of it. (Make more money if you do but definitely NOT REQUIRED)
3. Simple system that takes 15 minutes per day to execute to
perfection.
4. Long Term Multiple Income Streams
This person also had an nice audio running in the background for his
visitors that can't read.
Paraphrasing, it too said:
"No recruiting necessary, never have to speak to anyone, just buy
the product, work 15 minutes/day and you WILL,
not may, not can, not might but WILL, earn
long term multiple streams of income like you've always dreamed of.
"
WOW... this guys got to be living the dream. He and his whole
downline are sitting at the pool hall waiting for their commission
checks to arrive.

The next challenger for the days most ludicrous claims talks about a:
"Boy Named Seth"
It seems that Seth was a young family man at the end of his rope.
No job. Wife and kids. He'd tried MLM, but was never able to
make much money. We could lean all about how Seth beat the odds by
calling the info line.
I called.
MAAAANNNNNN.... are these guys excited. Gary and Larry, the
tussling twins are locked in a friendly competition to determine who can
earn the most thousands of dollars a week by the end of the month.
Steve, who is new to network marketing, has earned $1,200 in only a few
days. Our friend Seth, who lives in Alaska, is well on his way to
getting his wife out of big bad corporate America so she can stay home
and count their money. This after being in the business for
only 48 hours.
If it's this easy... we should all be doing it. So, I visited
their web site and pulled down a distributor application.
Our friends running this HOT opportunity will
sell you a:
"Herd Of Leads"
Their words, not mine.
Specifically, 20,000 leads for only $500.00. To pay for them, you
mail three blank money orders, two for $200.00 and one
for $100.00, and you're in.
Everything's bearer paper. No questions asked.

Three kinds of people respond to these presentations:
New People
Stupid People
Deceitful People
We can't do anything about the last two. Stupid people will
always fall for stupid deals, deceitful people will always be angling
for a fast buck, it's new people to MLM we concern ourselves with.
Those promoting these ludicrous deals as a legitimate MLM opportunity
are doing a huge disservice to the MLM industry.
It's not just MLM. Crooks are everywhere in every industry. As you know, I'm a CPA. As
such, I watched with interest as my "Other Profession" was drug through
the mud as a result of the culpability of Arthur Anderson and their
motto of:
"Have Shredder... Will Travel"
with regard to Enron, et.al.
Because of the unbridled greed, lack of ethics and egregious
arrogance of Arthur Anderson's principals, they destroyed a
company that served the financial industry since 1913.
Employees are on the street, lives are destroyed, a pall falls over the entire
United States financial sector. No one knows whether they
can rely on audited statements to make informed business decisions.
People presenting MLM in the aforementioned fashion are destroying
the MLM industry. Just as Arthur Anderson's criminal activities made
every CPA's conduct questionable, these people make every legitimate
multi-level marketing opportunity suspect. Every bogus statement, every exaggerated claim, every wink and nod casts
a cloud over the MLM Industry. The only saving grace
is neither these two, or any other single MLM distributor or company, have
the influence or scope to destroy the industry.
HOWEVER, they do hurt us. It's:
"Death By A Thousand Cuts"
For example, let's say that you get a credible person on the phone.
He's a professional, has the money and the interest in pursuing a home
based business. Everything's going great until he learns that your
opportunity is MLM. He's had a look around the internet and
reviewed several "Opportunities" making ridiculous claims. Upon
further examination, he's found them all to be MLM.
It doesn't make any difference that your company's been in business
for 10 years. It doesn't make any difference that the MLM industry
has been vibrant and viable for over 60 years. It doesn't make any
difference that your products are available no-where else. You're
guilty by association.

I don't know what to do about the deceit and cheats in our industry.
They're like weeds in a garden. You pull one and another pops up.
For whatever it's worth.... it's not just MLM. The accountants proved that anyone,
anywhere can be destroyed by lies and fabrications.
To find people that are ready willing and able to work with you to
build an MLM business, you've got to tell the truth. You must tell
them that success in MLM requires you to:
Invest Your Time
Invest Your Money
Communicate Your Opportunity
When you approach prospects with the truth, you eliminate those
unwilling to do the work. That leaves people who are serious about
improving their future and are willing to make your MLM business an integral part
of that future. That's how you earn long-term residual income.
Telling the truth is what MLM Giants is all about.
